Ticks Are Horrible Right Now: Is Your Pet Protected?

It’s been a heavy season for ticks in Columbia, and they are more than just a nuisance—they’re a health risk. Lately, we’ve noticed a major uptick (pun intended, though we wish it weren’t true!) in pets coming into the salon with uninvited guests.

Many owners are surprised to find out their pet has ticks because, at first glance, they are incredibly easy to miss. By the time they arrive for a groom, we’re often finding them tucked away in the places you’d least expect.

The "Hidden" Tick Checklist

Ticks love warmth and thin skin. When you come home from a walk or even just a romp in the backyard, do a 30-second "Random Check" in these "hot spots":

• The Ears: Check deep inside the folds and behind the ear leather.
• The "Armpits": Check the front and back leg joints.
• Between the Toes: Ticks love to hide in the webbing of the paws.
• Under the Collar: This is a classic hiding spot that often goes unchecked for days.

Why Random Checks Matter

While monthly preventatives are essential, no product is 100% foolproof against every species of tick. Doing a quick "hands-on" check once a day not only helps you find ticks early but also doubles as a great bonding moment for you and your pet.
